Medicare is a Federal medical insurance program. Enrollment into Original Medicare Parts A & B is handled by the Social Security Administration (SSA) office. You will automatically get enrolled into Medicare Part A and B by age 65 if you already receive Social Security Retirement or Disability or Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefits. Otherwise, you can apply for Original Medicare Part A and Part B within the 3 months before your 65th birthday month. Medicare Part B is optional if get coverage through an employer. Most people of all ages who receives Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits are eligible for Original Medicare after a 24-month waiting period. If you do not receive your Original Medicare card automatically, you can APPLY ONLINE, or in person. The easiest way to apply for Original Medicare Parts A and B is to visit the closest Social Security office near you.
